July 20th Madness

Right Rear
Friday July 20th proved to be one of the craziest nights of racing that I have experienced in my short four year career. On a night where 19 sport mods headed out to race the feature, a few minutes into the race you would have thought that we all had lined up for a demolition derby. There were 4 cautions and a red flag all before the first lap was completed. Many cars had to be towed off the track, somehow we missed most of the may-lay.

The race continued to be littered with caution after caution. The old saying that cautions breed cautions was again true on Friday night. Lap nine was where my number was drawn to bring out the caution (not really, only figuratively). Coming out of turn two, I got into another car and my right rear tire was cut by contact. By the time I exited turn four the tire was shredded. I pulled over onto the cushion to wait for the caution to come out.

Timmy and Jake Wenig's pit crew changed the tire and cooled the engine off to get us back onto the track. When the green flag flew, it was evident that I was just gonna ride around to finish out the race. The car and driver were out of sorts fighting a push in one corner and a loose condition in another.

We crossed the line finishing in 12th spot with some sheet metal damage. It was good to get back in the car and to race again. It was not not our best performance but under the conditions, we will take it. Tim did an excellent job getting the car ready to go and keeping it running this evening, considering that we decided to go racing at 2:30 on Friday.
