First Night Out Top Ten

After a long winter away from racing, Cowman Racing started the season on Friday evening at Lee County Speedway. It was the perfect night for racing and a field filled with several heavy hitters.

Randy Uppinghouse did a fantastic job putting this years sport mod together. The two tone red and white makes the car stand out. It was nice to have his wife Julie along for the evening.

The heat race was a disaster that ended up being a blessing in disguise. As the car would enter the corners it would stall, then it would pick up coming off the corners.  At lap three we pulled it into the infield because the car stalled out and would not fire. After being pushed back to the pits, we took off the hood only to discover a wire that was shorting causing the car to stall. It was an easy fix but could have been a problem that we would chase for who knows how long.

We lined up 14th to start the main. When the green flag dropped, the goal was to get seat time and finish the race. But as it turned out we had several opportunities that found ourselves in the top ten. A late caution gave us one more chance to advance positions. We took advantage, with a good restart, and a couple of cars getting together and finished the race with an 8th place finish.

We will be at Lee County Speedway again this Friday evening, April 22nd.
