What's in a chain?

Anyone who has been around racing knows that there are three key elements to finding success at the track. There is first the driver. He is pretty important to the whole process. He makes decisions on the track that often effect his outcome for the race. The driver can give feed back to the crew as to the handling of the car. The better drivers can assess what the issues are and communicate that to the crew.  Good drivers, however, don't always do well if the other two elements are not working properly.
The second key element to finding success on the track is the car setup. This provides maximum speed entering and exiting the corners. The first two keys go hand in hand.  Having one without the other leads to failure.

The third key element is power plant. Without a strong engine the other two elements do not even enter the picture. Usually the fastest cars win. Horsepower and speed can make up for alot of other deficiencies. When these three elements are working together, you will find yourself in the lead pack and maybe victory lane.

This all being said, the third key element of racing failed for us on Friday evening. A broken timing chain led to other components failing. That left a well-handling car and a semi-competent driver off the track on the 14th lap. Amazingly, we ended up 8th. We had a good run going but one of the three key elements of racing went south on us.

We will see how this week goes. With only six points races left, it is important that we finish strong.
